Resources for Teaching the New Standards in Writing

Classroom-ready materials in an easy-to-use color tabbed 3-ring binder for teaching every required writing type. Rigorously aligned with California’s writing standards, with a chapter for each required style at each grade level. Each chapter includes:

• a one-page overview of the specific , grade-level requirements for each writing style (includes academic vocabulary and suggested transitions)
• a 4-point scoring guide
• one or more graphic organizers
• four to fifteen student-written samples, scored and provided with commentary
• the same samples in scrambled order for use in student scoring groups
• the prompts from which the sample essays were written
• a peer response sheet

Additionally, each grade level binder contains four Response to Literature essays which have been color-mapped and provided on transparent overlays (typically one 4, one 3, one 2, and one 1). These pre-mapped essays really demonstrate to students how a strong essay is created through effective and balanced use of main idea, supporting idea, examples, and commentary.
